Sheepeater Mtn and its namesake Sheepeater Ridge dominate this section of the Idaho backcountry, situated at the intersection of the Nez Perce National Forest and Payette National Forest. Along the northern edge, the Salmon Wild and Scenic River carves through the terrain, depositing distinct sand and gravel features such as Fall Creek Bar, Groundhog Bar, and Widow Bar. These bars historically served as critical landing and camping spots for those navigating the river's treacherous Growler Rapids.
