The terrain is structured by a series of parallel ridges including Smith Ridge, Lake Ridge, and the prominent Sherwood Ridge, which borders Sherwood Valley to the east. This 2021 survey shows a complex drainage network where the Middle Fork Ten Mile River and S Fork Eel River carve through the deep folds of the Coast Range.
