Yosemite National Park meets the Sierra National Forest along a landscape defined by high-altitude crests and glacial waters. The high country transition is marked by prominent peaks such as Sing Peak and Mount Bruce, with several critical backcountry corridors including Merced Pass, Fernandez Pass, and Chiquito Pass. The drainages of the South Fork Merced River and Chiquito Creek shape the descent from the jagged Buena Vista Crest, where seasonal waters feed the Hoover Lakes and Chain Lakes.
