Dakota City and South Sioux City anchor the western banks of the Missouri River in this 2012 survey of the tri-state border region. The landscape is defined by the sharp bends of the river, notably the Big Sioux Bend where the Big Sioux River joins from the north. High ground is visible at Floyds Bluff overlooking the Floyd River to the east, while the low-lying plains are dotted with numerous water features including Crystal Lake, Gateway Lake, and the recreational area at Millis Beach.
