Squaxin Island and Harstine Island dominate the maritime geography of this South Puget Sound region, where narrow passages and deep inlets create a complex coastline. On the mainland, small residential communities such as Boston Harbor and Carlyon Beach sit atop points overlooking the sound. The navigation of these waters is facilitated by essential maritime markers, including the Dofflemyer Point Lighthouse at the entrance to Budd Inlet and the Libby Point Light near Hammersley Inlet.
