Stanford and the surrounding borderlands of Greene and Monroe counties are defined by a complex network of narrow hollows and winding creek beds. Small family cemeteries and rural congregations serve as the primary landmarks for this upland landscape, including Greene County Chapel Cem and the Keller Cem. The terrain is deeply etched by watercourses such as Richland Creek and Little Indian Creek, which create the sharp topographic relief of Lawrence Hollow.
