Sugarloaf Mtn and Little Sugarloaf Mtn dominate this high-elevation landscape within the White River National Forest, straddling the boundary between Garfield and Eagle counties. The terrain is defined by a complex drainage network where Willow Cr and its tributaries, including the locally unique Natural Bridge formation, flow toward the Colorado River in the southeastern corner. Higher elevations to the north and west feature numerous alpine water bodies such as Horse Lake, Buck Lake, and Star Lake. This area is heavily managed for public use, evidenced by the extensive network of Bureau of Land Management routes, including BLM Route 8451A and BLM Route 8453B, which provide access to Derby Mesa and the surrounding peaks like Porphyry Mtn.
