The rugged terrain of the White River National Forest south of Eagle is defined by the high elevations of Hardscrabble Mtn and The Seven Hermits. This alpine landscape is etched by a complex system of drainages, including Sawmill Gulch and McKenzie Gulch, which supported historical ranching and water management through a network of ditches and small reservoirs. Distinctive landmarks like Coffin Mtn rise above the gulches, while local water resources such as Yates Reservoir, Hells Hole Reservoir, and McHatton Reservoir point to the area's legacy of high-country irrigation.
