Bitterroot National Forest spans the high divide between Montana and Idaho, centered on the protected reaches of the Selway - Bitterroot Wilderness. This 1998 revision of the earlier 1963 survey captures a landscape defined by sharp drainage basins and high-altitude lakes. The northern slopes are drained by Triple Creek and White Cap Creek, while the eastern side of the divide is dominated by Tin Cup Lake and its namesake Tin Cup Creek.
