About this map

Traverse City anchors the southeastern corner of this survey, where the urban grid meets the elevated terrain of Hickory Hill. The landscape to the north and west is defined by the high ridges separating the West Arm Grand Traverse Bay from the elongated basin of Lake Leelanau. This area preserves several smaller legacy settlements and community nodes, including Greilickville and Cherry Bend along the bay shore, and Fouch tucked near the lake’s southern tip. Small family and community burial grounds, such as Bingham Cem, Heimforth Cem, and Fouch Cem, are scattered across the higher elevations, providing a localized record of the families who settled this fruit-growing region. Numerous small drainages like Belknap Cr and Munn Cr carve through the hills, illustrating the complex hydrology of the Leelanau Peninsula.
