Sunset Knoll and the northern slopes of W Sunset Mtn dominate this high-desert landscape in central Arizona. The area is defined by its critical water management infrastructure, where numerous stock tanks provide vital resources for the region's ranching operations. Significant landmarks include Rinehart Tank in the north and the complex drainage of Jacks Canyon in the southeast, near Az 87. This 2014 survey reveals a sparse but functional network of range roads, such as Coon Tank Rd and Hobo Tanks Rd, which navigate the elevation changes between the volcanic knolls and the deep canyons. Other water features like King Tank, Rock House Tank, and Porcupine Tank dot the landscape, illustrating the essential relationship between topographic depressions and water collection in this arid environment.
