The Great Northern railroad cuts a diagonal line through this high-plains landscape, serving the small community of Acton. Mapped in the mid-1950s, the area is characterized by the wide expanse of the Comanche Basin and a network of drainages that feed the local water systems, including the North Fork and South Fork of Alkali Creek, alongside the meandering Fivemile Creek. This survey was conducted as part of the Department of the Interior program for the development of the Missouri Basin, documenting a rural landscape where social and educational life centered on sites like Coakley Ch and Fairview Sch. The terrain rises toward the northeast to the benchmark at VABM Sage 4064, overlooking a region defined by scattered wells and ranching infrastructure such as the Hickson Ranch.
