Athens serves as the central hub of this Marathon County landscape, where the local street grid including Elm St and Pine St meets the rural expanse of central Wisconsin. The terrain is defined by a dense network of waterways, most notably the Big Rib River and the meandering Black Creek, which flows just south of the village center.
