Edwards County ranching lands and the upper Nueces River valley are captured here just as the World War II era reached these remote West Texas limestone hills. The landscape is defined by an intricate network of family homesteads and livestock operations, from the Perkins Ranch in the northwest to the A Schwandner Ranch in the south. These settlements relied on a series of vital water sources in an otherwise arid environment, including Dripping Springs, Boiling Springs, and the Goat Water Hole.
