The Colorado River defines the northern reaches of this landscape, winding through a valley shared by San Saba and Mills counties. Near the river’s sweeping bends, the settlement of Big Valley is anchored by the Lower Valley Cem, while the McMillin Cem sits further east near the county line. The terrain transitions from river bottomlands into a series of prominent rises and ridges, including Wildhorse Mtn, Round Mtn, and the Mauldin Hills.
