2021 Map of Black Butte

About this map

The Vulture Mountains dominate the northeastern corner of this arid landscape, rising abruptly from the surrounding desert floor. This 2021 survey captures a portion of the Sonoran Desert defined by dramatic topographic relief and ephemeral water systems. To the west of the peaks, the Hassayampa Plain stretches toward the horizon, a broad alluvial expanse marked by complex drainage networks. Primary drainages like Jackrabbit Wash and Dead Horse Wash cut through the terrain, indicating the flow of seasonal monsoon runoff. Isolated water sources such as Rock Holes Tank provide critical reference points in the southeastern section. The transportation network is sparse, consisting largely of remote desert routes like Aguila Rd and the utilitarian W Microwave Station Rd, which suggest modern infrastructure in an otherwise undeveloped region.
