About this map

Redington Township defines the southern portion of this high-altitude landscape, where several of Maine's prominent peaks converge. The Appalachian National Scenic Trail winds through the eastern terrain, crossing between Crocker Mtn and South Crocker Mtn before descending toward the north. This area is a critical hydrological divide; headwaters for the Nash Stream and its West Branch flow from the slopes of the central Black Nubble, while the South Branch Dead River occupies the northwest corner. A network of primitive routes, including the Navy Rd and sections of Carrabassett Dr, provide the only vehicular access into these heavily timbered slopes and the neighboring Redington Pond Range. The map illustrates the topographic complexity of Mt Redington and Hedgehog Hill, documenting the drainage patterns of Stoney Brook and Skunk Branch in a region characterized by its lack of permanent settlements.
