White River National Forest covers this high-altitude landscape in Garfield Co, where the White River Plateau meets the steep drainages of the South Fork White River. The terrain is defined by dramatic elevation shifts, from the summit of Fowler Peak and the high expanse of Clinetop Mesa down into South Fork Canyon. This 2019 survey documents a wilderness environment shaped by water, featuring a dense network of alpine lakes including Crater Lake, Shadow Lake, Jet Lake, and Elk Lakes.
