Borden and its surrounding hamlets in Steuben County are defined by a network of steep hills and creek valleys south of the Canisteo River. The landscape is etched with the names of prominent high points, from Derby Hill in the north to Tuscarora Hill and Mutton Hill in the south. These ridges separate the drainage of the North Branch Tuscarora Creek and the main Tuscarora Creek, which flows past East Woodhull and South Addison.
