About this map

Santa Teresa Mountains define the northern reaches of this landscape, where high points like Pinnacle and Santa Teresa Ridge overlook a network of deep drainages. In the early 1970s, this portion of the Coronado National Forest served as active rangeland, marked by a dense system of water management features including Buford Tank, Norton Spring, and Norton Spring. The terrain transitions from the heights of Oak Butte down to the southwest, where the perennial Aravaipa Creek cuts through the dramatic Aravaipa Canyon. Human activity in the area is recorded through isolated Prospects, the presence of a Radio Tower, and a small Cem near the creek. Travel across this remote Graham County terrain relied heavily on an established network of primitive routes, including the Kennedy Falls Trail and various jeep trails navigating the complex topography of Buford Canyon and Underwood Canyon.
