Grand Canyon National Park encompasses the dramatic confluence where the Little Colorado River joins the main stem of the Colorado River. This landscape is defined by massive formations such as Temple Butte, Chuar Butte, and Gunther Castle, which rise above the deep incisions of Marble Canyon and the Little Colorado River Gorge. The terrain transitions from the high elevations of the Palisades of the Desert and Cape Solitude down to the river level, where Sixtymile Rapids and Lava Canyon Rapids mark the turbulent water.
