Carthage sits at the southern edge of this Tennessee landscape, where the confluence of Hogan Creek and the Cumberland River historically shaped the region's development. By the early 21st century, the landscape is defined by the massive reach of the Cordell Hull Reservoir and the northern arm of Old Hickory Lake, which together have transformed the ancient river bends into an expansive water network. These waters surround prominent river features such as Horseshoe Bend, McClure Bend, and Goodall Island.
