Castle Butte stands as the central landmark in this portion of Fergus County, overlooking a landscape defined by deeply cut drainages and high-altitude ridges. The hydrological network is dominated by Cottonwood Creek and its many tributaries, including Casino Creek and Mill Creek, which flow through the dissected terrain of townships T13N and T14N. These watercourses have carved significant landforms such as Hay Canyon and Lyon Canyon in the southern reaches of the map.
