The Zuñi River meanders across the southern portion of this high-desert landscape in eastern Apache County, Arizona. This region is defined by a series of drainage systems, including the long reaches of Cedar Lake Wash and Hardscrabble Wash, which flow toward the primary river valley. The presence of Cedar Lake Reservoir in the northwestern quadrant represents a critical point of water management in a terrain where natural flow is often ephemeral. While the sheet shows a primarily open landscape, the network of local roads and 4WD tracks provides a detailed view of the rural access patterns used by ranchers and residents of the high plateau region in the early 21st century.
