The Hetch Hetchy Aqueduct cuts across the northern reaches of this section of the Diablo Range, where the high ridges of Alameda and San Joaquin counties meet. This terrain is defined by its deep canyons and prominent summits, including Cedar Mountain and the high point of Mt Wallace. The landscape is a network of seasonal drainages and permanent water features like Sweet Springs and the headwaters of Arroyo Mocho.
