The Corporate Limits of the City of New Orleans stretch across the brackish expanse of Lake Pontchartrain in this mid-1930s survey. The landscape is a complex network of wetlands and waterways, where Bayou Sauvage and Bayou Gentilly wind through the marsh toward Lake Borgne. Coastal defense and transportation infrastructure define the corridor between the lakes, anchored by the brick remains of Fort Macomb guarding the strategic Chef Menteur Pass.

On the southern shore, the settlements of Little Woods, Citrus, and Micheaud are linked by the Old Spanish Trail and the Louisville and Nashville Railroad. To the west, the Dead Cypress Swamp (Drained) reflects early efforts to manage the delta's hydrology. Further north across the Middle Ground, small shoreline communities like North Shore and Howze Beach sit at the edge of St Tammany Parish, connected by the Southern Railway.
