Wenatchee National Forest encompasses this high-elevation landscape in the Entiat Mountains, where the headwaters of the Chiwawa River and the Mad River drain a complex system of ridges and basins. The terrain is defined by prominent summits such as Garland Peak and Basalt Peak, which tower over a network of meadows and alpine lakes. Many of these features, including Mad Lake, Mud Lake, and the aptly named Pond Meadow, suggest a landscape shaped by persistent moisture and glacial activity.
