1967 Map of Chimney Hill

USGS Topo · Published 1971

About this map

The Continental Divide snake through this high-altitude landscape of western New Mexico, creating a natural drainage partition between the scattered wetlands to the east and the dry draws to the west. On the northeast edge of the map, the Ramah Indian Reservation Boundary borders the expansive Peñasco Flat, where the Peñasco Lakes provide critical water sources in an otherwise arid environment. The terrain is defined by prominent volcanic and topographic landmarks, including the eponymous Chimney Hill and the southeastern height of Cerro Brujos.
