Sheldon National Antelope Refuge occupies the southern and eastern portions of this mid-1960s survey, a landscape defined by dramatic geological depressions and high desert flats. The terrain is dominated by the Long Valley (Depression) and the broad expanse of Macy Flat, showcasing a high-plateau environment where water is a scarce and vital resource. Small springs dot the western slopes of the valley, providing the necessary conditions for isolated settlement in an otherwise demanding environment.
