The Flathead River flows along the southern edge of this landscape, defining the northern outskirts of Columbia Falls. To the west, the community of Halfmoon sits at the base of the rising foothills, where Trumbull Creek emerges from the higher elevations of the National Forest. The transition from the developed valley floor to the forested slopes is marked by the Meadow Lake Golf Course, which serves as a landmark between the urban grid and the winding mountain roads.
