Large-scale dairy operations and historic ranching properties define this agricultural landscape in the San Joaquin Valley. At the southern terminus of the quadrangle lies the expansive Kern Lake Bed, a remnant of the once-vast Tulare Lake basin system, now primarily used for farming but still containing the namesake Kern Lake. The area's dependence on sophisticated water management is evident through the network of irrigation infrastructure, including the Stine Canal, Farmers Canal, and the New Rim Ditch.
