The Tonto National Forest dominates this high-elevation landscape along the boundary of Maricopa and Yavapai Counties. This region is characterized by a complex drainage system and prominent plateaus, most notably Cooks Mesa and Grapevine Mesa. The New River Mountains rise in the west, with Squaw Mtn and Benchmark Mtn providing significant topographic landmarks for navigation.

Water sources are critical to this arid environment, evidenced by numerous named springs such as Manzanita Spring, Goat Camp Spring, and Lion Canyon Spring. The New River and its various forks, including South Fork Canyon and Magazine Canyon, have carved deep channels into the terrain. Remote access is indicated by the Hogan Trl, which traverses the northeastern portion of the sheet near Six Bar Ridge and Jacks Gulch.
