The Bruneau River flows northward through this high-altitude ranching and mining region in Elko County, flanked by the Copper Mountains to the east and Pine Mountain to the west. The landscape is defined by its series of intermittent watercourses and draws, including Marcellini Draw and Wickiup Creek, which converge toward the river valley. Sparse human settlement is reflected in isolated outposts such as McKnight Cabin, Humphries Cabin, and the Palacio Cabins.
