Cuchara serves as the primary northern anchor for this high-altitude landscape where the Sangre de Cristo foothills meet the southern Colorado border. Much of the area is contained within the San Isabel National Forest, defined by a network of drainage systems including the Cucharas River and the S Fork Cucharas River. The terrain is marked by significant topographical landmarks such as Mid White Peak and S White Peak, which dominate the central skyline.
