The Culebra Range dominates this high-altitude landscape along the border of Costilla and Las Animas Counties. This 2016 survey documents a topography defined by significant peaks, including the prominent Culebra Peak, Vermejo Peak, and Purgatoire Peak. The terrain is deeply incised by a network of alpine waterways, with drainage systems such as Vallejos Cr and Las Vigas Cr flowing through the high basins.
