Devil Mesa and the surrounding high desert of San Juan County are defined by a complex network of canyons and plateaus in this 2014 geographic study. The landscape is dominated by the deep drainage of Montezuma Canyon, through which Montezuma Cr flows toward the southeast. This area demonstrates the classic mesa-and-canyon topography of the Four Corners region, where elevated landmarks like Alkali Point and Dodge Point provide expansive views over the broken terrain of Indian Canyon and Long Canyon.
