Devil Mesa dominates the high ground in this section of San Juan County, part of a complex landscape defined by deep drainages and prominent overlooks. The terrain is bifurcated by the winding course of Montezuma Canyon, where Montezuma Creek has carved a significant path through the plateau. To the north and west, a series of elongated fingers of land, including Long Point and Long Canyon Point, separate narrow incisions like Indian Canyon and Long Canyon.
