Dry Hills and the adjacent Desert Valley define this landscape in Humboldt County, where water and topography dictate the region's sparse infrastructure. The presence of expansive Hardpans in the south illustrates the arid nature of the basin, while the drainage network of Bottle Creek Slough, Willow Creek, and Boulder Creek provides the only break in the flat terrain. Human activity is largely represented by the lone corridor of Bottle Creek Rd, which cuts across the township lines of the public land survey system. This area remains largely undeveloped, showcasing the vast open reaches of the Great Basin as they appeared in the early 21st century.
