The coastal wetlands of Terrebonne Parish are defined here by the linear settlements following the natural levees of Grand Caillou Bayou and the engineered corridor of the Houma Navigation Canal. In this 1994 revision, the community of Dulac and the ribbon development of Grand Caillou show a landscape where local life is intricately tied to the water, centered around landmarks like the Grand Caillou Sch and numerous small burial grounds including Celestin Cem and Provost Cem. To the east, the expanse of Lake Boudreaux and Lake Gero dominate the terrain, illustrating the precarious balance between the marsh and the encroaching sea. Industrial footprints are prominent through extensive fossil fuel extraction, with the Bayou Chauvin Oil and Gas Field and the South Sunrise Oil and Gas Field marking the marshland with pipelines and drill sites.
