The Salish Mountains define this high-altitude landscape along the border of Lincoln and Flathead Counties. Primarily located within the Flathead National Forest, the area is centered on Dunsire Point and Mount Swaney, reaching across prominent ridges and drainages. The Tally Lake Ranger District manages much of this terrain, where the Elk Divide separates major watersheds. This 1994 revision, based on photographs from 1962 and 1990, illustrates the dense network of forest roads and trails developed for timber management and access. Water features like Good Creek, Plume Creek, and Dunsire Creek carve through the steep topography, while small-scale industrial sites such as a Gravel Pit appear near the Fisher River drainage. To the west, the Kootenai National Forest begins, marked by the Brush Divide and the headwaters of Brush Creek.
