Dwyer sits at the southwestern edge of this landscape, where the Mimbres River flows south through Grant County. This high-desert terrain is defined by the thermal activity of the Mimbres Hot Springs and Mimbres Cold Springs, nestled within canyons that cut through the foothills of the Mimbres Mountains. The northeastern portion of the quadrangle belongs to the Gila National Forest, a land of complex drainage systems including the Gavilan Arroyo and Cordwood Draw.
