El Dorado and the surrounding Butler County prairie are defined by the convergence of the Walnut River and its various tributaries, including the W Br Walnut River and Constant Cr. The northern landscape is dominated by the sprawling El Dorado Lake, which facilitates significant recreational infrastructure such as the El Dorado State Park Bluestem Point Camping Area and Shady Creek Marina.
