El Dorado and its surrounding Butler County landscape are defined by the convergence of major waterways and modern infrastructure. The West Branch Walnut River and the Walnut River flow through the valley, feeding into the expansive El Dorado Lake in the north. This reservoir is a central feature of the area, bordered by an extensive recreational network including the Boulder Bluff Trail, Shady Creek Nature Trail, and Satchel Creek Cove Trail.
