The Hunting River flows through a landscape defined by glacial activity and a dense concentration of freshwater bodies along the boundary of Oneida and Langlade counties. This northern Wisconsin terrain features significant lake systems including Enterprise Lake and Pelican Lake, the latter containing Antigo Island and the prominent Indian Point. The settlement patterns here follow a north-south corridor, with the communities of Elcho, Summit Lake, and Pelican Lake serving as local hubs. These towns are connected by a network of timber and lakeside roads like Silver Lake Rd and Moccasin Lake Rd. Evidence of early community life is found at the Enterprise Cem near the western map edge. The map also documents the convergence of local infrastructure at Pratt Junction and numerous named springs such as Bellis Spring and Flood Spring, which feed the local watershed.
