The Cumberland Escarpment and the massive Walden Ridge dominate the western portion of this Rhea County landscape, creating a dramatic topographical transition toward the Tennessee River valley. The community of Evensville sits at the foot of these heights, while further east, the waters of Chickamauga Lake define the boundary with Meigs County. The area is dense with family and historic burial sites, including the Newby Cem, Mynatt Cem, and a noted Slave Cem near the riverbanks.
