Aesops Arch and the surrounding high desert terrain define this corner of San Juan County during the early 21st century. The landscape is marked by a complex network of canyons and plateaus, including Fable Valley and the Dark Canyon Plateau. Water sources are critical landmarks here, with locations like Homewater Spring, Moki Spring, and Stanley Spring providing essential reference points in an arid environment. The geography is punctuated by significant vertical features such as House Park Butte and the Sweet Alice Hills. Access through this part of the Manti-LaSal National Forest is limited to primitive routes like Beef Basin Rd and Sweet Alice Rd, which connect the various basins and washes. This 2014 survey serves as a precise record of the natural landmarks and remote drainage systems, from Beef Basin Wash to the depths of Gypsum Canyon.
