Death Valley National Park encompasses this high-desert landscape where the Amargosa Range and Grapevine Mountains overlook the northern reaches of Death Valley. The topography is defined by dramatic drainage systems, including the steep-walled Fall Canyon, Red Wall Canyon, and Titus Canyon, which cut through the limestone and volcanic layers of the ranges. At the foot of these slopes, the vast alluvial fan descends toward the Mojave Desert floor at Mesquite Flat.
