The Fall River Valley is defined by a dense network of waterways where the Pit River meets the spring-fed flows of the Fall River and Tule River. This 2015 survey details a landscape where agriculture and water management are intertwined, evidenced by the McArthur Diversion Canal and Lee Drainage Canal that crisscross the valley floor near McArthur. To the north, the terrain transitions into a complex marshland system including Big Lake, Horr Pond, and Eastman Lake, bounded by the southern edge of the Shasta National Forest.
