1972 Map of Fence Lake

USGS Topo · Published 1976

About this map

The high plateau of western New Mexico is defined here by the small community of Fence Lake and the settlement of Atarque to the north. Surveyed in the early 1970s, the landscape is etched by a series of ephemeral drainages including Terrero Draw, Atarque Draw, and Jaralosa Draw, which characterize the arid ranching environment of Valencia County. Important water sources for local operations are marked by features such as the East Malpais Windmill, Los Alamos Springs, and Cabin Spring.
