Fog Mountain rises over a dense network of watercourses and ridges within the Nez Perce National Forest in northern Idaho. The Selway River serves as the primary drainage for the quadrangle, collecting a myriad of tributary streams including Ballinger Cr, Wolf Cr, and Tepee Cr. The landscape is defined by its extreme elevation changes, marked by high-altitude features like Moose Meadows and Big Fog Saddle. Modern infrastructure is notably limited in this wilderness area, with Fog Mtn Rd providing one of the few vehicular access points into the interior. To the south, Highline Ridge and the Highline Lakes demonstrate the glaciated character of the terrain, while landmarks such as Otter Butte and Indian Hill overlook the deep valleys carved by Otter Cr and Berry Cr.
